Alpha Kappa Sigma Continuing Education Scholarship Award​

Application Deadline: 6th May 2024


Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter governs the awarding of scholarships to all recipients, and all decisions are final in accordance with the application criteria.


Eligibility Criteria:

  • A High School Senior is graduating in June of the current year and will attend college/university or trade school in the fall of the academic year.

  • A college student is continuing their education at a college/university or trade school. 

  • A graduating young male in the Sigma Beta Auxiliary group of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and a Resident of Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie County, or Prince George County.

  • Must not be a former recipient of the ALPHA KAPPA SIGMA scholarship.


PLEASE NOTE: Relatives of Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter members are ineligible for this scholarship.


Application Criteria: 

Your application will be based on the following four parameters:

(1) Academic Merit: OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS MUST ARRIVE WREGISTRAR'STRAR'S SEAL. Students must have a B grade point average (3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale).


(2) External Activities: Include summer/holiday employment, internships, part-time positions, Etc. It also includes participation in service activities, charitable, athletic, and other high school organizations.


(3) Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: One letter must be from a counselor or teacher. The second letter should be from an employer or community leader.

(4) Quality of Personal Statement: Summarize your educational interests and objectives and describe how being awarded this scholarship will help you achieve your goals. Discuss why those goals are important to you. The applicant's response should be limited to two double-spaced 8 ½ x 11 typed pages.

Award Payment: All scholarship payments will be made to the institution of study for the student's account for the current academic year.


Procedures: All completed applications must be submitted and received by the stated deadline. The Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter Education Committee will only select scholarship recipients deserving of monetary amounts as deemed by the Education Director. Before the application deadline, the transcripts will be mailed to 29 Franklin Street #125, Petersburg, Virginia 23803Applications submitted after the deadline and/or incomplete will not be considered.
